On May 17, 2008 - the International Lions Day - six Pomerania Lions Clubs officially transferred a donation for the Center For Early Diagnosis in Gdańsk–Sobieszewo. The donation was the equipment for the World Perception Hall, used to multisensory therapy for blind and poor sighted children from all Pomerania. The funds of 72.825 PLNwere collected by five local Lions Clubs (Neptun, Amber, Gdańsk–1, Gedania, and Gdynia) and LC Kościerzyna as well as the grant allocated by the Lions Clubs International Foundation.
The Center for Early Diagnosis was created in Sept 2012 as a branch of Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy in Laski near Warsaw run for over a hundred years by Care for the Blind Association (Towarzystwo Opieki nad Ociemniałymi). By equipping this Center with the most advanced diagnostic appliances we have released the blind kids’ parents from numerous tiring and costly trips to Laski (over 300 km).
After the official opening and blessing by a Black Friar, father Pokrywka, the blind and vision impaired kids who attended the ceremony along with their parents immediately started to use the equipment. One could see their enormous joy All the participating Lions Clubs took the obligation to maintain the quipment for 5 years allocating the amount of 5000 USD for that purpose.. |
